
American Forensic Nurses, Inc. (AMRN), is an organization owned and operated by Faye Battiste-Otto, RN, a forensic nurse. AFN has been in existence since 1983, and for over 26 years has provided on-call mobile forensic phlebotomy services for law enforcement agencies in Southern California.
Sexual Assault Examination: Adult/Adolescent American Forensic Nurses, in partnership with the University of California, presents an online comprehensive sexual assault examiner training program (SAE, SANE, FNE, and SAFE). This course is designed to prepare registered nurses and other qualified health care professionals how to conduct forensic evaluations on victims of sexual assault.
In addition to the 60-hour on-line academic program, there is a mandatory 45-hour clinical internship. The clinical internship includes observations and supervised practice in all essential elements of the forensic sexual assault examination including observation of law enforcement field operations, case management procedures of a prosecutorial agency (District Attorney), criminal court proceeding and monitoring of a sexual assault victim advocacy program as well as other specified learning experiences.
Upon successful completion of the academic and internship portions of the program the participant will receive a Certificate of Completion and may begin practicing as a sexual assault examiner. Prerequisites for the Sexual Assault Examiner Certification (SANE-A) examination are satisfied. Qualification for 40-hours of Continuing Education Credit are earned and completion of the academic portion of the program represents a total of 4 professional-level course units that may be transferable depending on the accrediting rules of the institution where the transfer is sought.
Forensic Nursing Certificate
American Forensic Nurses, in cooperation with the University of California, presents a comprehensive online Forensic Nursing Certificate program. Trauma, acts of violence, mass casualty incidents, sexual assault and human abuse are explored as they relate to evidence collection in healthcare and other workplace settings. If you are interested in, or want to become involved in the investigative sciences, this comprehensive online Certificate in Forensic Nursing is extremely beneficial. The units earned in the program are postgraduate professional level designed for professional and occupational advancement.

Programs may be completed from home, office, at your convenience via a virtual campus that is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Courses provide California BRN Continuing Education hours for registered nurses. Participants residing outside of California will need to contact their individual state's licensing board to verify and determine California BRN applicability.
Pediatric Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiner
This 85-hour comprehensive forensic training program is specifically designed for Registered Nurses and other qualified healthcare professionals interested in becoming Pediatric Forensic Examiners. The didactic course content includes background information and demographics of pediatric sexual assault, introduction to pertinent anatomy and physiology, forensic terminology for documentation, photographic documentation including use of colposcope, imaging, collection, handling and preservation of physical evidence and biological specimens, evidentiary chain of custody procedures, assessment and management of injuries and prophylaxis for health risks, medical and forensic documentation procedures, and preparation for the examiner's role in judicial processes including depositions and courtroom testimony.

Greenville Tech Continuing Education Programs
These online courses offered at Greenville Tech, Buck Mickel Center are ANCC approved. They are designed to expand the forensic participant's current knowledge and to keep the student up to date with the latest developments in the forensic sciences, enabling participants to meet their professional goals and the requirements of employers. Courses include Basic Evidence Collection, Reproductive Anatomy of the Male and Female, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Child Maltreatment, Identification of Injuries and Elder Abuse.
Phlebotomy Continuing Education
The Institute offers accredited professional-level continuing education online courses for certified phlebotomy technicians (CPT).
Courses are especially designed to meet the continuing education requirements of clinical laboratory scientists (medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, certified phlebotomy technicians (CPT), students, and other CLS personnel). The phlebotomy online training
program is innovative, and allows students to study at their own convenience and pace.
The Continuing Education Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science in California (California Department of Public Health, Laboratory Field Services) has approved the American Institute of Forensic Education, Inc., as a continuing education provider.
